Dallas Stars youngster Wyatt Johnston scored a hat trick on Sunday night in their 6-1 win over the Ottawa Senators and teammate Colin Blackwell summed up the performance with a two-word reaction on Instagram.
Blackwell shared the Stars’ post-game graphic highlighting Johnston’s three-goal night on his Instagram stories. In the caption, he wrote:
“He's Him”
The reaction circulated shortly after Dallas released photos of fans throwing hats onto the ice at American Airlines Center.

Johnston delivered the fourth hat trick of his NHL career and his most impactful performance of the season on the night. Ottawa opened the scoring early in the second period but Johnston responded less than two minutes later on the power play tipping in a point shot to tie the game. He added his second power-play goal late in the frame giving Dallas its first lead of the night.
Early in the third, he completed the hat trick on a rebound at the top of the crease capping a stretch in which the Stars scored six unanswered goals. Johnston finished with four points, pushing him to 16 goals on the season and extending his league-leading total in power-play goals.
Dallas carried the momentum throughout the night. Jason Robertson, playing his 400th NHL game, recorded a goal and two assists. Jamie Benn scored on a breakaway in the third and rookie Mavrik Bourque added another with a wrist shot through traffic. Casey DeSmith turned aside 15 shots in a calm low-volume night in net.
Mikko Rantanen heaps praise on Wyatt Johnston's game
During the postgame media availability, Mikko Rantanen mentioned how valuable Wyatt Johnston has become to Dallas’ offense.
He noted that playing alongside him has been easy because Johnston has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable finishers this season, especially on the power play.
“It’s fun to be there with him. He helps us a lot. He’s been a finisher this year, which we’ll take it,” Rantanen said.
“He doesn’t need many chances on the power play to score. Today, I think he had two chances and two goals. He’s very good in tight areas, soft hands, and he can shoot the puck. Really important on our power play.”
Meanwhile, Wyatt Johnston said his success comes from getting to the net and putting himself in spots where high-percentage chances develop.
“I think that goes along with just how great the players we have out there are, and they can make plays. For me, it’s just getting [to the slot] and just being ready to shoot it whenever we have it because the guys can find me pretty easy,” Johnston added.
The win improved the Stars to 10-1-1 in their last 12 games.
