Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is recovering from the facial injury he suffered earlier this month. This weekend, his wife, Kiley McAvoy, offered a glimpse into how the family is coping in the aftermath of the frightening incident.

Kiley shared a black-and-white photo on Instagram showing Charlie sitting in what appears to be a medical recovery room holding their son, Rhys. Over the image, she wrote:

“These past few weeks have been really tough for our family. We can’t thank everyone enough for all of the kind words and prayers. My boys are as tough as it gets!”

McAvoy was struck in the face by a puck during the Bruins’ matchup against the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 15. The incident occurred early in the second period when a shot from Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson deflected and caught McAvoy directly in the face. He immediately left the ice and did not return.

Marco Sturm on Charlie McAvoy’s recovery period

The Bruins announced on Nov. 20 that McAvoy underwent a surgical procedure to repair multiple facial injuries sustained from the deflected slap shot. While the organization confirmed he was recovering at home, the team provided no timetable for his return, listing him as out indefinitely.

Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm later confirmed that McAvoy is in good spirits, but the team still has no clear timetable for his return. He reiterated that the timeline depends on how McAvoy heals from the procedure.

"He's doing good. He's recovering right now at home, and we still don't know how long he's going to be out for," Sturm said Wednesday. "Other guys have to step up, I think that's the bottom line. It can't be (Nikita) Zadorov and (Hampus) Lindholm."

McAvoy was officially moved to the injured list on Nov. 23. While the Bruins have not offered a firm timeline, it remains a realistic possibility he could recover in time for the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.

Charlie McAvoy was one of the first six players selected to represent Team USA at the Games and his injury makes him the fifth member of that initial group to miss time this season.
