The Florida Panthers hosted a special pregame ceremony on Thursday night to honor veteran defenseman Jeff Petry for reaching the 1,000-game milestone. Ahead of puck drop at Amerant Bank Arena, the Panthers brought Petry and his family onto the ice for a full tribute.
Petry stood at center ice with his wife Julie holding a bouquet of flowers and the entire family receiving an ovation from the home crowd. Their four sons each wore jerseys representing one of his former NHL teams on the special occasion. Team representatives then presented Petry with a commemorative silver stick while the arena scoreboard displayed highlights from his 15-year career.
In a post shared to her Instagram stories, Jeff Petry’s former Canadiens teammate Carey Price’s wife Angela reshared the Panthers’ on-ice ceremony photo featuring Petry, his wife Julie, their four sons and the commemorative silver stick presentation. Angela paired the image with Saweetie’s “Best Friend” and several clapping emojis.

Another former Canadiens family also joined in. Cat Toffoli, wife of forward Tyler Toffoli, posted a separate story from the same ceremony showing the Petry family lined up on the ice. Cat added the caption:
“Could not love this any more 🥺”
Later in the evening, Julie Petry shared a glimpse of the family’s celebratory dinner posting a photo of their table setting and a personalized menu titled “Petry 1,000 Games Celebration Menu.”
Jeff Petry opens up on reaching 1,000-NHL game milestone
Reflecting on the milestone, Jeff Petry explained that it’s a nice personal achievement but he still wants to stay focused on playing the right way and helping the team.
He added that his goal this season is to keep pushing toward the kind of success the Panthers have had in recent years and to do whatever he can to help them get back to that level.
"It's something to be proud of," Petry said. "Just enjoy it. It's a good personal accomplishment, and you can be proud of that."
“There are a lot of players in here who have accomplished the ultimate dream, and they want to do it again. What I am building to this season is to reach that," he added.
Panthers coach Paul Maurice shared that sentiment stressing how deeply respected the 1,000-NHL game plateau is among players.
"But 1,000 games for a defenseman first of all means you've played in the best league in the world, and you've survived it. You've played in pain. You've played with separated shoulders, broken feet, all those kinds of hard things, and you didn't let your teammates down. You've played at a high enough level to play for a very long time," he said.
Jeff Petry signed with the Florida Panthers earlier in the summer agreeing to a one-year, $775,000 contract that also includes performance bonuses.
