Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood addressed the growing trade rumors surrounding him on Wednesday. His two-year, $3 million contract expires after next season, and he is eligible to sign a new contract. If he does not sign an extension, he will become an unrestricted free agent in July 2026.TSN Hockey insider Darren Dreger said that Vancouver is listening to offers for its pending unrestricted free-agent veterans, including Sherwood.Speaking after the morning skate ahead of the game against the Anaheim Ducks, Sherwood said he is trying to stay focused on hockey and avoid looking at trade speculation."I try not to look at it," Sherwood said, via Sportsnet. "I think we just try to focus on playing and try to stay in the present. I love it here, and I love this group here, and I just want to continue to take it day by day."That [contract] stuff will sort itself out. I'm just focused on trying to have a good road trip here and get a couple of wins."Sherwood said trade talk is part of the business and that players need to stay professional."You try to have a good mindset through it all. Life and hockey are a mental game, so you try to focus on what you can control."I'm just trying to focus on helping this team turn it around here and try to get back into the playoff picture," Sherwood added. Was Friedman's report on Canucks a hint at a potential Kiefer Sherwood trade? The Canucks sit at 10-12-2 and insiders, including Elliotte Friedman, believe they could move veterans quickly if they receive the right offers."I've had people say to me today that they think that if Vancouver gets what they want for him [Sherwood]...they could do it quick," Friedman said on Canucks Central.Sherwood is drawing interest after a strong start. He has 12 goals and 16 points in 24 games and ranks near the top of the NHL in hits. His energy and scoring have made him an important piece for Vancouver, but the team is focused on building a roster that can keep Quinn Hughes long-term.
