Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and his wife Nastasiya Shubskaya dressed up in gladiator themed outfits for Halloween. On Friday, Nastasiya shared the couple’s Halloween look on her Instagram stories featuring the warrior getup.

Ovechkin appeared in a Roman-style soldier costume featuring armor, a red cape and helmet, while Shubskaya wore a gladiator-inspired outfit with a fitted bodice, shield, sword accessory and lace-up boots.

Earlier last year, the couple opted for matching ninja-style costumes in a black-and-red theme, complete with katana props.

Shubskaya and Ovechkin first met at the 2008 Olympics, reconnected years later and announced their engagement in 2015. The couple in 2016 in Russia and later held a celebratory reception in Moscow.

Since then, they’ve welcomed two sons, Ilya and Segei, born in 2018 and 2020.


Alex Ovechkin celebrated his 40th birthday over video conference

Earlier last month, Alex Ovechkin celebrated his 40th birthday surrounded by family and loved ones, both in person and virtually. His wife Nastasiya Shubskaya shared a series of Instagram stories on the occasion featuring the special moments from the day, beginning with Ovechkin posing at home with the couple’s two sons in front of gold “40” balloons and birthday decor.

Later, the celebration extended overseas as Ovechkin’s family in Russia joined in via video call appearing on a large screen as sparklers lit up his birthday cake and guests sang and cheered.

“Когда расстояние не мешает, чтобы быть всем вместе” (“When distance doesn’t stop us from being together”), Nastasiya wrote alongside one clip.

The birthday came shortly after the seventh birthday of the couple’s eldest son Sergei. The Ovechkins celebrated the occasion in Moscow where Nastasiya posted a carousel of photos showing Sergei smiling as he opened presents, posed in a beige shirt and matching cap and stood with his mother and younger brother Ilya in front of a colorful Minecraft-themed backdrop.

A full family photo showed Ovechkin, Nastasiya and their two boys together, while additional shots included Nastasiya with the children, a picture alongside her father Russian film director Kirill Shubsky and a group gathered around a tiered Minecraft cake featuring Sergei’s name.

During the offseason, the family also hosted the annual Ovi Cup at Mytishchi Arena where NHL and KHL players joined friends and relatives for the traditional gala game. Ovechkin’s team won 11-7 thanks to a hat trick from Evgeni Malkin and standout performances from Matvei Michkov and Kirill Kaprizov.

The spotlight, however, belonged to young Sergei, who scored four goals including one set up by his father and even took a shift skating in Ovechkin’s signature “laces-out” style. Ovechkin added a goal of his own, while Nastasiya reshared several clips of Sergei’s big night.
