Alex Ovechkin scored his 900th NHL goal during the Washington Capitals’ 6-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday. After the game, his wife, Anastasia “Nastya” Shubskaya, shared an Instagram story. She posted a photo of 'Borscht', a traditional soup she made for the team.
Speaking about the meal, she joked that making borscht before games might become a new routine.
"It seems like making borscht before the game for the whole team will become a must," Nastya wrote followed by a laugh emoji.

Her post brought a light and cheerful touch to the 900th goal milestone night.
Nastya has made 'borscht' for the team before. In March, while speaking with Sport-Express's Igor Rabiner, she told a story about cooking it before a big win. The Capitals won 8-1 in November 2024 over the St. Louis Blues, after having borscht. Later, the team joked that her cooking brought them luck.
"Yes, sometimes Sasha asks to make borscht for the team," Nastya said. (Translated from Russian with Google Translate) "There was a case when a couple of years ago I cooked huge pots of borscht – and the team, having eaten it, won 8-1. In any case, the score was incredible. They laughed that it was my ‘fault.’ Since then, such requests sometimes happen.”
Borscht is made from beets and vegetables and takes time to prepare.
"We all know that borscht generally takes a long time to cook," Nastya shared. "It's just that the volumes here are larger, which means it takes longer."
Well, borscht has now become a fun team tradition for the Capitals.
Alex Ovechkin and Nastya have been married since 2016. They have two sons, Sergei and Ilya, and often share family photos online. Nastya, a model and film producer from Russia, supports her husband’s career and often joins him at games.
