Adrian Kempre ended the game at the 3:58 mark of the extra frame. LA Kings’ captain Anze Kopitar got the other tally. Meanwhile, Evander Kane tied the game for the Vancouver Canucks in the second period. Kane scored a great breakaway goal as he came out of the penalty box. The goal was Kane’s fifth of the season.

The two clubs traded disallowed goals in the first period. Most notably, Elias Pettersson was in the middle of both instances.

#3 David Kampf

The Vancouver Canucks signed David Kampf to bolster the club’s depth down the middle amid its insane rash of injuries this season. However, Kampf hasn’t been quite as impactful as the club had hoped.

Kampf is a defensive specialist, but has been thrust into a top-six role given the club’s situation. Under such circumstances, Kampf has not lived up to expectations. He’s yet to register a point in six games for the Canucks.

On Saturday night, he hit the ice for 14:59, across 20 shifts. He got one shot on goal, but was unable to create meaningful scoring chances for his club.

#2 Tyler Myers

Tyler Myers was at the forefront of yet another costly play for the Vancouver Canucks. Against the Kings, Myers made a key defensive miscue that led to Kopitar opening the scoring late in the first period.

Here’s a look at the goal, as seen on the Kings’ official X account:

As Kopitar hit the harshmarks, Myers attempted to use his long reach to prevent Kopitar from getting the shot away. Myers missed, allowing Kopitar to beat Kevin Lankinen for the goal.

Myers registered an assist in Kane’s game-tying goal, while playing 19:37 across 27 shifts on the night.

#1 Elias Pettersson

Elias Pettersson had an eventful game for the Vancouver Canucks. He had apparently scored early in the first period, but had the goal called back. Then, he made an atrocious defensive play behind his own net, seemingly leading to a Los Angeles goal. Fortunately for Pettersson, that goal was called back due to an offside.

He then went the rest of the game, mostly invisible until overtime. In the extra frame, his miscue on coverage in front of his own net allowed Kempe to score the game-winner.

Had Pettersson played the puck in front of the net, he could have had a better chance of preventing the goal. Instead, Pettersson tried to block the shot. The Kings moved the puck, and Kempe buried the winning goal in an empty net.

The Vancouver Canucks will look to get back in the win column as they face the NHL’s best team, the Colorado Avalanche, on Tuesday night at Ball Arena.
