The game was close for the entire night until Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond scored his fifth of the season at the 16:13 mark of the third period. Alex DeBrincat got the other goal for the Red Wings, a power play marker in the second. Meanwhile, Mika Zibanejad (PPG) replied for the New York Rangers.

Jonathan Quick had a fantastic performance, stopping 40 of 42 shots on the night in the losing effort.

So, here’s a look at the three least impressive New York Rangers players from their loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.

#3 Alexis Lafreniere

The New York Rangers' first-overall pick from the 202 NHL Draft had another regrettable game. He skated in a little over 15 minutes on the night across 18 shifts. However, he was unable to get much offense going. He managed just one shot on goal on the night.

Considering the Rangers wasted an outstanding outing by Jonathan Quick, it was a shame the Blueshirts could not muster more offensive support from top players like Lafreniere.

#2 Will Cuylle

Will Cuylle hit the ice for 17:12 against the Red Wings. While he got an assist on the goal by Zibanejad, his role on DeBrincat’s power play tally proved costly.

Here’s a look at the goal as shown on the Red Wings’ official X account:

With the New York Rangers shorthanded, the Wings moved the puck around. Cuylle got caught puck-watching momentarily as the pass came to Lucas Raymond. Raymond let the shot fly, with Cuylle just a tad too late to get a stick on the play. Defenseman Matthew Robertson was also unable to block the shot.

The puck squirted through, with Alex DeBrincat on the doorstep to tap the puck home. The goal had initially been credited to Raymond. However, the replay showed it was DeBrincat who got the goal.

#1 Carson Soucy

Carson Soucy played a tough game for the New York Rangers. He hit the ice for over 21 minutes across 27 shifts. He blocked two shots. But it was Lucas Raymond taking Soucy to school that ended up making the difference on the night.

Here’s a look at the goal:

Raymond went 1-on-1 against Soucy, beating him around the net. Raymond circled behind the bet, eventually coming back out in front. Soucy had evidently lost track of Raymond, reacting too late. By the time Soucy tried to make a play, Raymond beat Quick for the go-ahead goal.

The miscue proved lethal as Raymond’s goal became the game-winner.

The New York Rangers will hit the ice on Tuesday night as they kick off a Western road trip starting in Vegas against the Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena.
