The Montreal Canadiens suffered a 7-2 blowout against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon at Ball Arena. The Avalanche were coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild the night before. But that didn’t stop Colorado’s offense from steamrolling the Canadiens.Brock Nelson and captain Gabriel Landeskog scored twice for the Avalanche, with Nathan MacKinnon, Devon Toews, and Brent Burns adding the other goals. Meanwhile, Ivan Demidov and Lane Hutson (PPG) scored for the Canadiens.Jakub Dobes surrendered seven goals on 36 shots in a less-than-stellar outing. Here’s a look at the three least impressive Montreal Canadiens players from their 7-2 blowout loss to the Colorado Avalanche.3 least impressive Montreal Canadiens players from blowout loss to Colorado Avalanche#1 Mike MathesonThe Montreal Canadiens veteran blueliner had a rough game against the Avalanche. He ended the game with just over 21 minutes of ice time across 26 shifts. However, he registered a minus-2 while getting two shots on goal.Unfortunately for Matheson, things just didn’t go right. A good example is Toews’ first goal of the season. Martin Necas slid the puck across to Toews. The puck hit Matheson’s stick, elevating it. Toews made a great play to grab it with his hand and settle it back across for the pass. The replay showed how Matheson’s stick redirected the puck into the net.The goal was initially awarded to Necas, but eventually went to Toews.#2 Alexandre CarrierAlexandre Carrier got burned big time by the Colorado Avalanche’s vaunted offense. He ended the game a minus-3 while playing nearly 23 minutes. But it was the Avalanche’s fourth goal that exposed Carrier’s unfortunate lack of focus on the night.Carrier did not take the pass away or force the shot on Dobes. Instead, Landeskog took the shot, with the rebound coming to MacKinnon on the doorstep. Carrier, meanwhile, did little to prevent the shot from reaching MacKinnon. The late second-period goal essentially put the game out of reach for the Canadiens.#3 Jakub DobesJakub Dobes has been good this season. He’s been so good that part of the narrative surrounding the Montreal Canadiens is that Dobes should take the starting job away from Samuel Montembeault.Nevertheless, Saturday’s performance against the Avalanche put Dobes in a tough spot. He surrendered seven goals, a couple of which he’d like to have back, including the one by Brent Burns.Dobes was unable to bail his team out on the night. The Avalanche were simply too much for the Canadiens to handle. The Habs will regroup and look to get back into the win column on Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators.
