The Montreal Canadiens dropped a disappointing 4-3 game to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night at the Prudential Center. The Devils rallied to tie the game with 1:07 to go. The Devils pulled the goalie, getting the equalizer from Timo Meier.

Then, Jesper Bratt capitalized on a horrific turnover to pot the game-winner 1:33 into the overtime period. Ondrej Palat and Cody Glass got the other goals for the New Jersey Devils. Meanwhile, Kirby Dach, Jake Evans, and Oliver Kapanen got the tallies for the Montreal Canadiens.

#3 Jakub Dobes

The Montreal Canadiens' goalie had a decent showing for about 58 minutes on Thursday night. Despite holding on for most of the game, Jakub Dobes failed to make the biggest saves of the night when they counted.

In particular, the Devils’ game-tying goal was one Dobes would have liked to get back. Here’s a look at the tally as shown on the Devils’ official X account:

The replay showed Dobes struggling to locate the puck. Had he found it, he could have covered it up and gotten a face-off. Instead, Meier jammed home the loose change for the tying goal.

Dobes made 24 saves in the losing effort.

#2 Ivan Demidov

The sheen appears to be wearing off the Montreal Canadiens' prized rookie. Ivan Demidov hit the ice for a little over 10 minutes on Thursday night across 15 shifts. Demidov has fallen to the Habs’ third line, one that was at the forefront of a colossal miscue that ended the Canadiens’ night.

Demidov did not register a shot on goal, getting called for a minor penalty during the first period.

#1 Alex Newhook

Alex Newhook was the unfortunate victim of a ghastly gaffe that led to the Devils’ game-winner. Newhook was on the ice with Demidov, both of whom were unable to hold the puck in the offensive zone.

Newhook bobbled the puck at the New Jersey blue line, leading to the breakaway that ended the game.

Both Newhook and Demidov were far too late to get back into the play. Meanwhile, Dobes got beaten through the five-hole.

All told, the horrendous defensive breakdown was all the Devils needed to pick up the two points.

The Canadiens will be back on the ice as they face the Utah Mammoth at the Bell Centre.
