CompherThe Detroit Red Wings veteran forward did not have the best of nights against the Devils. He hit the ice for over 15 minutes across 19 shifts. While he had 13 shots on goal, he did not generate much offense. To make matters worse, he ended the night a minus-2. Here’s a look at a particular situation, as shown on the Devils’ X account:J.T. Compher does a good job of finishing his check on the play. However, he was slow to get back. By the time he did, the puck came back to the point. The shot from Stefan Noesen hit the net with Meier deflecting it past Cam Talbot. No one picked up Meier, allowing him to easily redirect the shot.Compher ended the night with seven penalty minutes, two for boarding in the first period, and then five for fighting Noesen, who retaliated for Compher’s hit on Nico Hischier.#2 Ben ChiarotBen Chiarot had an underwhelming night. The Red Wings deployed Chiarot for over 22 minutes on the night. However, he was in the midst of multiple New Jersey goals. Here’s a look at one such example:The rush initially led by Timo Meier leads to a pass to Jesper Bratt. Bratt then sells Chiarot on the shot, dishing the puck back to a trailing Nico Hischier. Hischier lets the shot go, beating Cam Talbot. That was just one example of how the Devils made Chiarot look completely out of place. Chiarot had one shot on goal and two blocks on the night.#1 Travis HamonicTravis Hamonic made a ghastly defensive mistake, leading to the Devils’ game-winner. Check it out here:Hamonic lost track of the puck, allowing Dawson Mercer to poke it free. Connor Brown quickly picked up the loose change and tucked it past Talbot for the goal. The tally made the game 4-2 at the time, enough to hold up as the game-winner.Hamonic ended the night a minus-3, in nearly 16 minutes of ice time across 20 shifts. He added four blocked shots. The Detroit Red Wings will be back on the ice on Wednesday night as they host the Nashville Predators at the Little Caesars Arena.
