The Detroit Red Wings dropped a lopsided 4-1 at home against the New York Rangers on Friday night. The Red Wings stayed in the game for most of the night. However, two third-period goals by the Rangers, less than a minute apart, sunk Detroit.

Will Cuylle opened the scoring for the Rangers on the power play, with Noah Laba, Artemi Panarin, and Alexis Lafreniere getting the other tallies. Meanwhile, J.T. Compher tied the game for the Detroit Red Wings midway through the first period.

#3 Ben Chiarot

The Detroit Red Wings blueliner had a tough night against the Rangers. He was on the ice for nearly 19 minutes across 25 shifts. Unfortunately, he was burned big time on the night. In particular, his role in Laba’s go-ahead goal was one that left fans shaking their heads.

Chiarot wrestled with Laba, but the Wings’ defender was unable to keep Chiarot from picking up the loose puck and burying it past Cam Talbot for the goal. The tally proved to be the game-winner.

#2 Marco Kasper

The Detroit Red Wings' second-line center didn’t have his best game of the season. He was limited to 15:27 of ice time across 19 shifts. His line didn’t get much ice time down the stretch, particularly after the game got out of hand.

All told, Kasper failed to get a shot on goal while ending the night as a minus-1. Kasper continues his underwhelming season as he’s only managed three goals and no assists in 14 games this season.

#1 Cam Talbot

The Red Wings' starting netminder had a mediocre game against the Rangers. He stopped 22 of 26 shots. But the goals he allowed were ones he would have liked to get back. Laba’s goal was a good example of one that Talbot regretted.

While the Red Wings failed to stop Artemi Panarin from getting the shot away, Talbot was in a solid position to make the save. He got a piece of the shot. However, he was off balance as he slid across to make the save. The puck went in the back of the net to make the game 3-1. Moments later, the Rangers iced the victory.

The Red Wings will be back on the ice on Sunday night as they host another Original Six team, the Chicago Blackhawks.
