3 least impressive Boston Bruins players from 7-2 rout against Ottawa Senators ft. Jeremy Swayman

The Boston Bruins were on the wrong end of a 7-2 pounding at the hands of the Ottawa Senators on Monday night at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The Bruins opened the scoring on Mogan Geekie’s seventh of the season. However, it was all Senators thereafter. Brake Batherson and Tim Stutzle scored twice for the Senators, including three power play goals between them. Claude Giroux, Nick Cousins, and Fabian Zetterlund (PPG) added the others for the Sens. Viktor Arvidsson added one more with less than a minute remaining to salvage Boston’s pride.

Jeremy Swayman had his worst outing of the season, giving up seven goals on the night. Coach Marco Sturm allowed Swayman to stay in goal for the entire night, despite a four-goal third-period debacle.

#3 Andrew Peeke

Andrew Peeke was among the Boston Bruins' penalty killers absolutely bludgeoned by the Senators’ power play. Peeke ended the night an even plus/minus in over 21 minutes of ice time. However, he struggled, as did the other Bruins penalty killers.

If not for the four power play goals surrendered on the night, the Bruins could have had a chance to win the game. However, Peeke, like fellow penalty killing blueliners Charlie McAvoy, Nikita Zadorov, and Michael Callahan, failed to live up to expectations.

#2 Elias Lindholm

Elias Lindholm continues to be a non-factor on the Boston Bruins’ top line. Lindholm skated for over 18 minutes on the night. He managed just one shot on goal and ended the night a minus-1.

Overall, Lindholm has failed to be a game-breaker. He’s notched two points in his last six games. Monday night’s effort spread to the entire top line, with leading scorer David Pastrnak also going pointless.

#1 Jeremy Swayman

Swayman had been lights out to start the season. But his last five games have been less-than-stellar. Swayman got lit up for six goals against the Vegas Golden Knights on October 16, as part of three-straight losses. He had a stellar game against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, but fell flat on Monday night.

His seven goals allowed were a massive letdown. Coach Marco Sturm likely left Swayman in the crease for the entire night as the Bruins play back-to-back games.

The Bruins will host the New York Islanders at the TD Garden, with Joonas Korpisalo likely drawing the start on Tuesday night.
