The Toronto Maple Leafs got their biggest win of the season, putting up seven against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at the PPG Paints Arena. The Maple Leafs were coming off a blown lead against the Washington Capitals on Friday night. But the Maple Leafs didn’t seem fazed after playing back-to-back games, and their third in four nights.

The Toronto Maple Leafs' third line had a big night as Nic Roy (PPG), Bobby McMann, and Dakota Joshua all scored. Oliver Ekman-Larsson got Toronto on the board with captain Auston Matthews. Easton Cowan and Nick Robertson added the other tallies. Meanwhile, Ben Kindel (PPG) and Sidney Crosby replied for the Penguins.

#3 Auston Matthews

The Toronto Maple Leafs captain had one of his best games of the season. He ended the night with a goal and an assist in nearly 20 minutes of ice time. He played in 22 shifts, getting four shots on goal.

Matthews unleashed his patented wrist shot, beating Tristan Jarry, who came in relief of Silovs in the second period.

#2 Nic Roy

Nic Roy had a big night at both ends of the ice. He scored a goal and an assist on the night in 15:28 of ice time across 22 shifts. But it was his power play goal in the second period that opened the floodgates for the Maple Leafs.

Roy took a feed from Max Domi as the power play waned. None of the Penguins’ players picked up Roy, who tapped in the feed for his third goal of the season.

#1 Dennis Hildeby

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent Dennis Hildeby out to face the Penguins after Joseph Woll got the start in Washington the night before.

And Hildeby did not disappoint. The Maple Leafs netminder made 33 saves on the night for his first win of the season in six appearances. Hildeby has had some tough luck this season. He made 42 saves in a loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on November 8. He also surrendered two goals against the Boston Bruins in another loss on November 11.

However, Saturday night in Pittsburgh was a fabulous performance for the 24-year-old. He earned the belt on the night from his teammates.

The Maple Leafs will be back on the ice on Tuesday night as they take on the Florida Panthers in what looks to be one of the team’s toughest tests this season.
