“Taylor Swift just started writing a ten minute sequel”: Netizens react as Joe Alwyn and Tom Hiddleston were spotted together at a London theatre

Taylor Swift fans were in for a surprise this week after her two former partners, Joe Alwyn and Tom Hiddleston, were spotted together in London. The unexpected meeting took place at the Bridge Theatre, where Alwyn is starring in The Lady from the Sea, marking his West End debut. The sighting, first reported by Cosmopolitan on November 3, 2025, quickly sparked a lot of reactions on social media.

The overlap between Joe Alwyn and Tom Hiddleston, quickly led to jokes about Taylor Swift's "cinematic universe", with some even speculating a new sequel track, much like the popular All Too Well (10 Minute Version).

Most fans however, were quick to reference Getaway Car from Swift's 2017 album Reputation.

The connection between this encounter and Taylor Swift's Reputation album quickly became the focal point of online discussion.

As reported by Cosmopolitan, Swifties immediately drew parallels between the London sighting and the narrative arc of the singer's 2017 track Getaway Car, a song that has long been interpreted as chronicling the brief but highly publicized transition from Calvin Harris to Tom Hiddleston, and ultimately to Joe Alwyn.

The timeline reportedly began in May 2016, when Taylor met both Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn at the Met Gala. The popstar and Tom were famously filmed dancing together at the event, even as she was reportedly still dating DJ Calvin Harris.

As reported by Cosmopolitan, by June 1, 2016, PEOPLE confirmed Taylor Swift’s split from Harris. That summer, she and Hiddleston made headlines, as they were seen together from Rhode Island to Rome, before reportedly going their separate ways in early September 2016. There has been no official statement regarding these speculations by the stars themselves.

Not long after, the Blank Space hitmaker reportedly began seeing English actor Joe Alwyn, and the couple were reportedly together for nearly six years. According to Cosmopolitan, the popstar even referenced that 2016 moment in her 2017 track Dress, singing,

"Flashback when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached."

Fans have long connected that lyric to the former couple's look at the Met Gala, where Swift wore a bleached-blonde bob.

Fans believe Opalite has references to Joe Alwyn

Taylor Swift's latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, released in October 2025, has also been the subject of intense lyrical dissection. As HELLO! Magazine reported on October 25, 2025, that some fans believe the song Opalite subtly references two of Swift's former partners- actor Joe Alwyn and 1975 frontman Matty Healy.

In the track, Swift sings,

"I thought my house was haunted, I used to lay with ghosts"

According to HELLO! Magazine, some listeners see the lines as a reference to the “ghosts” of past partners mentioned in her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department.

There have been no comments on any of the speculation from any of the celebrities being named at the time of press.

Joe Alwyn, now focused on theater, has largely kept out of the spotlight since his six-year relationship with Swift ended in 2023. His current role as Heath in Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea reportedly marks his first major project since. Tom Hiddleston, who dated Taylor briefly in 2016, has also maintained a low profile since marrying actress Zawe Ashton.

Taylor Swift herself is enjoying the success of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and is engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce.
