Sia has filed a motion to prevent her ex-husband, Daniel Bernad, from gaining sole custody of their son, Somersault Wonder. She denied Bernad's allegations of drug abuse and claimed he is trying to weaponize her past.
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler and Daniel Bernad are involved in a custody battle over their 19-month-old son, Somersault, also known as Summi. The couple, who married two years ago, filed for divorce in March 2025 and have now submitted individual custody motions in court.
Bernad is the CEO of Modern Medicine Services, an integrated medicine practice in Los Angeles focusing on acupuncture, sound therapy, and ketamine treatments. He is also a radiation oncologist, according to PEOPLE.
The ex-couple made their relationship public in 2021. They married in May 2023 and welcomed Summi in March 2024 before filing for divorce. On October 27, 2025, Bernad filed a court motion seeking sole custody of Summi, accusing the singer of drug abuse and claiming she is “a serious and immediate danger” to the child. He stated in his motion:
“Sia’s conduct is reckless, dangerous and demonstrates Sia’s utter disregard for Summi’s safety and well-being.”
He has also requested $77,245 in child support.
Sia slams Daniel Bernad's allegations, claims he was investigated for child pornography

The singer-songwriter filed a motion on October 28, urging the court to deny Daniel Bernad's request for sole custody. She stated in her motion that she has been sober for six months. She added that she had struggled with drug issues in the past, and her ex-husband is trying to "weaponize her past."
"Dan’s attempt to weaponize my past sobriety journey — an issue long resolved and well-documented — serves no legitimate purpose and is intended only to distort the facts and undermine my credibility before this Court. His willingness to dredge up decades-old history to serve his own financial and strategic interests demonstrates the extent to which he will go, even at the expense of his child and the child’s mother,” she said.
Sia also claimed that the Los Angeles Police Department and the Department of Child and Family Services investigated Bernad earlier this year for suspected possession of child pornography. She clarified that, although the investigation might be over, she still doesn't feel comfortable with him having sole custody of Summi.
“While I understand the investigations of LAPD and DCFS have been inconclusive and now closed, this does not appease my concerns of Summi spending unsupervised time with Dan.”
She also claimed that Bernad's filings are financially motivated. The oncologist reportedly filed a motion earlier this month to request $250,856 in spousal support from the singer. He also requested $300,000 for legal fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting fees.
The singer maintains that she had already paid Bernad $300,000 when they filed for divorce in March.
