Exploring Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty's supposed beef

While Playboi Carti never mentioned that his recent comments at his New York City show were about Lil Yachty, it didn't take long for fans to come to that conclusion. The two rappers don't have any outright beef. However, several fans claimed to have noticed tension between them that stemmed from claims that Yachty altered his sound to copy Carti.

This claim was first purported by DJ Akademiks during a Twitch livestream in July 2023. According to HipHop DX, the streamer claimed that Yachty told him Carti "made him change his entire style," adding:

“Lil Yachty in my studio told me — this is before he dropped ‘Poland’ and ‘Strike’ and all this other shit — n***a, he said he’s in the studio with Carti, and Carti made him change his entire style. Facts. Once I heard that, I was like, ‘Damn! Carti’s like that?!’ Sorry, I have nothing more to say. Carti’s that n***a."

However, Yachty denied this incident in an X post at the time, accusing Akademiks of lying and adding that he was influenced by Tyler, the Creator to change his sound. The following year, Yachty faced another accusation of trying to sound like Playboi Carti, this time from a fan on X.

In March 2024, Kai Cenat previewed a snippet from Lil Yachty, resulting in a fan claiming that he was trying to mimic Carti. Yachty hit back at the accusation via an X post at the time.

According to HotNewHipHop, Playboi Carti seemingly dissed Lil Yachty after all songs from Music debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 2025. Following this historic feat, Carti took to Instagram Story to post about the achievement, tagging Giovanna Ramos (whom he is presumed to be dating) and writing, "@ft.gioo Ya ex could never."

Fans speculated that this was a diss at Yachty, who was rumored to have dated Ramos. Additionally, Ramos was part of Yachty's Concrete Boys collective. In a now-deleted X post, Yachty seemingly responded to Carti's alleged diss and denied having dated Ramos.

"I never dated gio 4 da record. Was always platonic," he wrote.

In August 2025, Yachty denied having beef with Playboi Carti when he appeared on PlayqueBoyMax's livestream, saying:

“I ain’t got no problem. I ain’t got no problem with Carti either... We’re grown men. We’re all just living our own lives, getting our own money."
