Rapper B.o.B (originally named Bobby Ray Simmons Jr) has denied all accusations of assault after facing civil charges in a lawsuit filed on November 7 in Los Angeles County. On November 13, Simmons's attorney, Leron E. Rogers of Fox Rothschild LLP, shared an official statement denying all allegations against the rapper. B.o.B has been accused of allegedly s*xually assaulting a woman in his San Diego hotel room on April 26 after his concert. The allegations claim the rapper touched a woman, referred to as Jane, without her consent and forced her legs apart."Our client, Bobby Ray Simmons Jr., known professionally as B.o.B, categorically denies the false allegations contained in the Complaint filed. This filing appears to be a calculated attempt to leverage publicity and extract a financial settlement from a public figure — a baseless ‘money grab’ under the pretense of litigation. Mr. Simmons will not be intimidated or coerced by such tactics, nor will he remain silent while his name and reputation are unfairly attacked," the statement said. She is seeking monetary damages but the exact amount has not been disclosed. The complaint also alleges that B.o.B's team members were present during the incident but did not protest. The incident allegedly took place at 3 AM at the Westin Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Jane and her cousin were invited to an afterparty after the concert, and the rapper approached her when her cousin left the room temporarily. The anonymous plaintiff is reportedly from Texas, and is married with two children. She is also a cancer survivor. The civil complaint explained:“[She] viewed the unexpected invitation as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hang out with one of the biggest stars in Hip Hop, whose music played a major role in keeping her emotionally healthy to continue her arduous struggle against cancer. [She] couldn’t believe how her life had turned around since the cancer-free diagnosis. Moreover, she figured everything would be okay with her cousin by her side; after all, Mr. Simmons’ wife would be there also."The plaintiff and her cousin saw B.o.B perform at the Tequila & Taco Music Festival. Given her connection to Simmons' music during her cancer treatment, her cousin had taken her to his concert. She was also allegedly brought on stage by the rapper during his performance, after which his manager asked them to come to an afterparty. When her cousin stepped out to get a jacket, B.o.B allegedly touched Jane inappropriately without consent and forced her legs open and kissed her. "Mr. Simmons got up and walked to the doorway to ensure his wife had left the room and would no longer bother him or interrupt what he was planning to do. He quickly returned to his kneeling position before a seated [Jane], where he resumed rubbing her inner thighs and waist with the intent to s*xually assault her," Jane's civil complaint stated. The rapper reportedly said, "What makes you think I won’t kiss you right now?" before doing so. The rapper's wife also allegedly entered the room at this time but was told to leave. The complaint further details that the incident only stopped when B.o.B's manager knocked on his door. The rapper's attorney, however, continues to deny all charges. He mentioned in his statement that the plaintiff is using B.o.B as a "scapegoat.""We believe the allegations are a fabricated narrative and the plaintiff is using B.o.B as a scapegoat. Fabricating accusations of this nature is both irresponsible and harmful. Mr. Simmons recognizes that true victims of sexual assault deserve to be heard and supported, and false claims only undermine their pursuit of justice," the statement said. Both parties will take their next steps in court, as per the latest updates. Further details are awaited.
