Godfrey has shared his thoughts on Nicki Minaj's recent support for Christians in Nigeria following Donald Trump's comments. He raised questions about the rapper's intentions, as she joined hands with the Republicans to raise awareness about this issue.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social about alleged violence against Christians in Nigeria. He claimed that they are allegedly being killed and that the US will work to protect them. Nicki Minaj supported this post on X (formerly Twitter) and also expressed pride and being in the US.

On Tuesday, November 18, the rapper also spoke about the incident at an event with the UN. Godfrey, however, has doubts about Minaj's intention behind this. He spoke to TMZ on November 24 and highlighted how the rapper has been taking shots at other artists in recent months.

"Her speaking on Nigeria, I think, it’s important, because there are people being killed, like Christians being killed. It’s like Palestinians, it’s like all the stuff that’s happening. I think it’s cool that she spoke on it, but I was a little confused about her being on Trump’s side, she was among the Republicans," Godfrey said.

"And I was like, they’ve already caused enough trouble, the MAGA thing. It’s just like symbolic of negativity, a lot of racist and sexist, homophobic, and a lot of rhetoric that goes on with that," he added.

The comedian and actor added that he was confused as Minaj was slamming multiple artists in recent months, and suddenly switched to the issue in Nigeria. He questioned whether she wanted attention. He also added that if she is speaking up, she should do it with the Democrats.

"Or maybe she’s trying to get someone out of jail, out of trouble or tryna get a pardon, because it looks so sudden. Maybe she was like, ‘What cause can I find… Nigeria, let me speak on that’. It just didn’t look genuine. But if it is, you know if I’m wrong, more power to her. But I’m like still scratching my chin like, ‘What’re you up to?’" Godfrey added.

During an event at the United Nations Headquarters on November 18, Nicki Minaj gave a four-minute speech about the crimes in Nigeria. She claimed that the Christians are allegedly being attacked, and said:

“I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria.
"Today, faith is under attack in way too many places in Nigeria. Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray,” she added.

As caught by Rolling Stone, Donald Trump claimed that “radical Islamists” are attacking Christians in Nigeria. The African country's government has denied these allegations, though, claiming that while conflicts happen at times, muslims and Christians live "side by side" comfortably.
