Additionally, Carey thanked Muni Long and Tori Kelly, who performed a cover of Carey's Always Be My Baby at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, for their tribute performances. The Obsessed singer took to her Instagram Story to post a picture of herself with Long and Kelly, calling them "two gorgeous, uber-talented, kind, incredible musicians" and appreciating their performances.

Later, Mariah Carey discussed her viral reaction to Muni Long's performance of We Belong Together during an interview with GQ in September 2025. The conversation arose after Carey recalled Prince telling her he didn't like other people covering his song. For context, Carey covered Prince's The Beautiful Ones in her 1997 album Butterfly.

When asked whether she liked artists covering her songs, Carey replied, "Not really." She was further asked about her reaction to Muni Long's performance of We Belong Together, to which she responded:

“I didn’t even hear the cover. I didn’t know it happened. No one told me...I just didn’t know that she had done We Belong Together [as a cover] ‘cause her song was so similar to ‘We Belong Together.’ I had no idea that she did We Belong Together...I’m very honored and flattered that she did it. I love Muni Long, she’s a great person, umm, but I just don’t like people doing my songs."
