On October 31, Ed Sheeran took to Instagram to post a photo of himself dressed up as the iconic villain Pennywise from the 2017 film It. The singer's Halloween look went instantly viral with several fans opining on the same. As of writing, it has amassed over half a million likes on Instagram.

For the unversed, It is a supernatural horror film franchise adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the two-part film series features a star-studded cast, including Jaeden Martell, Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and the like.

In the series, Pennywise (played by Bill Skarsgård) is an inter-dimensional supernatural antagonist that was brought to Earth by a meteorite millions of years ago. It awakens every 27 years to feed off the fears of children and murder them. A prequel television series called It: Welcome to Derry was also released by HBO, with Skarsgård reprising his role as the iconic Pennywise.

As per his Instagram post, Ed Sheeran wandered the streets on Halloween dressed as the iconic extraterrestrial villain. In one clip, he was seen with a beverage dressed as Pennywise with a red balloon in his hand. Other footage shows the Grammy winner drinking beer and running around the streets. The Shape of You singer also posted behind-the-scenes videos of makeup artists helping him become Pennywise for the day.

Ed Sheeran teams up with Adolescence director for Netflix film

Ed Sheeran has recently teamed up with Philip Barantini to develop a new Netflix film called One Shot with Ed Sheeran. Barantini is the same director responsible for creatives like Boiling Point and Adolescence.

As per Rolling Stone, the press release for the film reads:

“From impromptu performances on bustling sidewalks and subway cars, to intimate interactions with fans and passersby. Ed Sheeran’s journey through New York will be captured in a series of unforgettable moments, highlighting the pandemonium and excitement that follows.”

The film is scheduled to release on November 21, 2025, on Netflix.

Philip Barantini has made a name for himself by mastering the single-shot technique. Both Boiling Point and Adolescence have been filmed employing the same technique.

The former is a 2021 British drama starring Stephen Graham, Vinette Robinson, Ray Panthaki, and Hannah Walters. The entirety of the film is shot in a posh London restaurant on a busy evening. The film received several nominations at the 75th British Academy Film Awards, including Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
