In the film, the dramatic revelation of Zootopia's founder, Agnes De’Snake’s true role in the city's history, unfolds between the city’s centennial celebration, a grand Zootenial Gala hosted by the powerful Lynxley family, the supposed descendants of the city's founder, Ebenezer.

The mystery kicks off when Gary De’Snake crashes the gala to steal a historic climate journal that was meant to be displayed. This journal, as Judy and Nick soon discover, holds the key to the city's hidden past.

As Judy begins working with Gary, he reveals the deep injustice that has marginalized reptiles for a century. The truth lies in the fact that the Zootopia the mammals know was built on a lie: the Zootopia's founder Agnes De’Snake, Gary's brilliant great-grandmother, was the one who engineered the groundbreaking weather wall technology, a concept she documented in her journal.

Around 100 years ago, this very journal detailing the creation of Zootopia was stolen, and the credit was usurped by the ambitious Ebenezer Lynxley. Ebenezer’s betrayal was calculated and ruthless. Not only did he steal Agnes’s intellectual property, which was crucial to the city’s founding and the development of its diverse biomes like Tundratown, but he also systematically erased her from the historical record.

To ensure that the actual Zootopia's founder, Agnes, could never challenge his stolen legacy, Ebenezer framed her for a crime she didn't commit: the murder of his maid, a tortoise who had attempted to prevent the journal's theft.

This extreme prejudice and corruption did more than just steal a patent; it led to the exclusion of all reptiles from Zootopia society, pushing them into hidden, forgotten pockets of the metropolis.

In Zooptopia 2, the search for Agnes’s missing patent in Reptile Ravine becomes the ultimate quest for justice, aiming to rewrite history and finally allow reptiles, like Gary and his family, to integrate into the city that one of their own had rightfully founded.
