The Running Man began filming on November 4, 2024, and was concluded on March 28, 2025. Starting from London, the filming took place at the famous Wembley Stadium to shoot extensive action scenes.

Beyond London, much of the filming also took place in Glasgow, Scotland, a place that is frequently utilized by Hollywood productions for its unique mix of modern and classical architecture. Blythswood Street and Bothwell Street are among the confirmed locations used during the film's production.

The Running Man was produced with a budget of $110 million, distributed by Paramount Pictures. Besides Wright, Simon Kinberg and Nira Park have also produced the film. Notably, this is the second film adaptation of Stephen King's novel. The first film adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, María Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Yaphet Kotto, and Jesse Ventura was released in 1987.

Edgar Wright stated that he sent the script to Stephen King himself for approval and that the film adapts the original book in a new manner.

In an exclusive interview with Gamesradar, the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director stated:

"What was very gratifying to me is Stephen King had to sign off on the adaptation, so there was a point in the production where we had to send him the script to get his approval, and he loved the script, and he said, 'I think you did a great job with the ending.'"

He also added:

"What we settled on very early, in terms of talking about the adaptation, is a different way of doing it that still has the same fire. It needed to kind of have the same spirit of the book, but in a different way."

Written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Stephen King's novel was released in 1982. This chilling novel established the foundation for the ultimate, deadly reality game show where protagonist Ben Richards must evade a team of professional assassins for a cash prize.

King’s ability to combine horror with profound social commentary has made him one of the most adapted authors in history, with major cinematic successes including the terror of It, the psychological dread of The Shining and Misery, and the acclaimed dramas of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

Coming up next in line is Edgar Wright's The Running Man, featuring Glen Powell. The film, which premiered at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, London, on November 5, 2025, is set to hit the theatres on November 14, 2025, in the United States, following its UK release on November 12.
