Frankenstein filming locations included different places in Scotland, England, and Canada. The main shooting was done from March 4, 2024, to July 5, 2024. The additional shooting schedule was from July 17 to 31 and August 21 to September 29.

The production period was officially from October 2023 to March 2024 and then from October 2024 to June 2025.

The major part of the filming in Scotland was done in Edinburgh. The city itself was used for the shooting of the film’s various interior and exterior scenes. The filmmakers turned to such places as Canongate, Wardrop's Court, Lady Stair's Close, Parliament Square along the Royal Mile, Bakehouse Close, and Makars' Court to achieve the dark and eerie atmosphere of the old Europe of the 19th century.

Glasgow and Glasgow Cathedral were the next places to provide the outside and inside parts of the film that contributed to the film's ecclesiastical and academic settings. Arbroath in Angus and Hospitalfield House were utilized for the inside as well as the outside shots.

Moreover, these two places offered not only the architecture of the past but also the wild and mountainous landscape, which is in line with del Toro’s way of visual storytelling.

On the other hand, Aberdeen and Dunecht House in Aberdeenshire also have significant roles in the movie as the Frankenstein family estate and the neighboring areas.

Outside of Scotland, the aristocratic interiors and exteriors were shot at Burghley House in Stamford, Lincolnshire, and Wilton House in Wiltshire. London also had a studio where the very small and scale-model works were done. These were mainly for laboratory scenes and the storm-driven reanimation scenes.

Frankenstein in Canada was shot at Cinespace Studios in Toronto for the inside as well as the outside scenes. There were a few very important outdoor scenes in Markham, North York, and Fortress Mountain in Alberta's Kananaskis Country, alongside the Toronto-based filming.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto was transformed into a medical research and surgical unit. The film's final showdown location is the North Bay area of Ontario, which is used as a double for the Arctic.

The character of the Creature is played by Jacob Elordi, and its regeneration capability and emotional growth are the primary themes that the story develops through. Mia Goth is playing two different characters: Lady Elizabeth Harlander, the fiancée of William and the unrequited love of Victor, and Baroness Claire Frankenstein, the deceased mother of Victor.

Felix Kammerer is William Frankenstein, the younger brother of Victor, while Christoph Waltz is Henrich Harlander, a rich and influential dealer in the arms trade who supports Victor’s research. Charles Dance plays the role of Baron Leopold Frankenstein, the father of Victor, who is not only a typical patriarch but also a well-known physician.

The others who support the main cast are Lars Mikkelsen as Captain Anderson, David Bradley as the blind man who becomes the friend of the Creature, Christian Convery as young Victor, and Burn Gorman, Ralph Ineson, Lauren Collins, and Sofia Galasso in other characters.

The story digs into how Victor, after losing his mother and having problems with his family, becomes obsessively driven to conquer death. As a result of his antics, Victor is kicked out of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Harlander’s offer to sponsor his research is gladly accepted by him.

By means of dead bodies of the soldiers and those executed for some crime, he fashions the Creature and brings it to life by means of electricity. The trial turns out to be successful; however, the whole thing ends in violence, loss, and tragedy because Victor chooses not to be responsible for his creation.
