Netflix: When will Troll 2 premiere? Release date, cast details, first look, and more

Roar Uthaug's Troll 2 will roll out on Netflix on December 1, 2025. The sequel to 2022's Troll expands the world of Nordic folklore with even larger-scale action and deeper mythology. The movie is filmed across Norway and Budapest.

The film follows Nora Tidemann, who confronts a giant troll along with Andreas Isaksen and Major Kristoffer Holm. The movie reunites returning stars Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, while introducing new cast members Sara Khorami, Jon Ketil Johnsen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Aksel Almaas, and Trond Magnum.

When and where is Troll 2 releasing?

Troll 2 will be released globally on December 1, 2025, exclusively on Netflix. The production spanned Trondheim, Maridalen, and Jotunheimen in Norway, with additional filming taking place in Budapest. The first promotional clip was unveiled in January 2025, followed by a teaser trailer released in June 2025.

What is Troll 2 about?

The tale tracks paleontologist Nora Tidemann when old powers start stirring again. A massive troll shows up in the highlands, so she links back up with Andreas Isaksen, alongside Major Kristoffer Holm, to handle what’s unfolding.

While trying out new paths, the team encounters another huge troll, one that behaves in a completely different manner than the last. Instead of attacking, it seems willing to help, so they decide to team up.

Together, human and monster get ready to face the dangerous one causing chaos across Norway. When things change, Nora works with Andreas, then they team up with Kris, to face new dangers. They deal with tricky troll patterns that keep evolving. Their main goal remains clear: to protect the areas at risk.

In an interview with Netflix director Roar Uthaug discussed the ambition behind the sequel:

“I am beyond proud of how audiences around the globe connected with the first Troll film far beyond what we imagined, With the sequel, we are aiming high - expanding the scope, deepening the story, and creating a troll-sized spectacle like you’ve never seen before. I cannot wait for fans to experience the adventure we have in store.”

Producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud added:

“It’s always daunting to do a sequel but we truly feel that this time, we’ve created an even better, bigger, funnier, and more adventurous film - if that’s even possible!”
