This story is a comparison of the sensible Elinor with her more emotional sister, Marianne, and shows the two girls' experiences of love, betrayal, and strength through different relationships.

The movie primarily focuses on the consequences of the Dashwoods being thrown out of their home, the sisters' encounters with new people at Barton Park, and their falling in love with Edward Ferrars, John Willoughby, and Colonel Brandon.

The story also addresses these issues, with the plot following the characters’ learning about love and duty through secret engagements, social pressure, and financial struggles.
