The Running Man (2025) is another Edgar Wright take on a Stephen King dystopian story, characterized by heavy action and musical elements. Released in November 2025 in both the UK and the US, The Running Man depicts a bleak future where a media-driven totalitarian state reigns. Hence, the score significantly contributes to the film's ferocity, tempo, and even its lyrical aspect.

As the movie draws from the book's concept and adds several characters and places, music becomes a perfect instrument to follow Ben Richards' transformation from a hunted man to a rebel emblem.

The music in the movie is designed as an elaborate original album, and it perfectly complements the film's issues of surveillance, propaganda, and revolt. The running tracklist is a reflection of the progressively dangerous game of the manhunt on television and the complex world that Richards navigates.

It features a 25-track original score that includes titles like I’m Not Angry, Rules of the Run, Target Acquired, and This Game Is No Game.

It is a story about Ben Richards, a blue-collar worker who lives under an authoritarian media regime that has turned into a kind of game show where participants engage in violent TV shows for the sake of survival money.

After he was blacklisted and was unable to buy medicine for his baby daughter, Richards agreed to join a show. It is the most popular program on the Network, The Running Man, where contestants are hunted for 30 days.

Once the game is underway, Richards manages to escape very early confrontations in New York and Boston and thus goes on to hide for a short time with the anti-Network rebels Bradley Throckmorton and Elton Parrakis.

The Network lies to the public over and over by using deepfakes, thus they show Richards as a criminal. Moving north, Richards is headed for a bunker in Maine, but along the way, he loses the friendship of Elton and also takes the rich Amelia Williams hostage. She, in turn, becomes a key witness who later reveals that the Network's broadcasts are fake.

The story intensifies when the Network’s producer, Dan Killian, offers Richards the role of a future hunter if he kills his pursuers. He declines the offer, and the plane he is fleeing in is shot down. In the final scene, Amelia is seen leaking the contents of the black box, which triggers the uprising of the people.

Richards is thus saved by the aircraft’s auto-eject system, and he is able to reunite with his family. When the show of the new season featuring The Running Man is on, Richards shows up at Killian’s side and confronts him in front of a riotous crowd.

Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, Josh Brolin is Dan Killian, Colman Domingo plays the role of the host Bobby Thompson, Lee Pace is hunter Evan McCone, Michael Cera is Elton Parrakis, Emilia Jones is Amelia Williams, William H. Macy is Molie Jernigan, and Daniel Ezra is Bradley Throckmorton.
