Directed by Jon M. Chu, the plot follows the events of the first film, as Elphaba is framed as a fugitive villain by the corrupt Wizard and Madame Morrible. Branded the "Wicked Witch of the West," Elphaba continues her battle for animal rights from the shadows, while Glinda is promoted and is given the responsibility of hunting her former friend.

Principal photography for both films took place entirely in the United Kingdom, with locations including Sky Studios Elstree in Hertfordshire.

Wicked: For Good was primarily filmed in various locations in England. Much of the indoor filming, including the structure of the Emerald City and interior Munchkinland sets, took place at the high-tech Sky Studios Elstree in Hertfordshire. For Elphaba’s outdoor scenes, the production was held at the Ivinghoe Hills and Countryside (part of the Chiltern Hills).

To truly capture the essense of the source material, director Jon M. Chu oversaw the plantation of nine milllion tulips as well as the construction of an authentic Yellow Brick Road using mud and bricks. In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Chu stated:

"I was like, ‘I want to do it the way I dreamed about it as a kid when I watched Hook,’ ”. “Behind the scenes, Steven Spielberg was on a dock with a giant pirate ship. I’m like, ‘If this is my one opportunity to do this, I want to do that.’ ”

Both Wicked and Wicked: For Good were produced and filmed simultaneously. Principal photography for both movies began concurrently in England in December 2022. This decision was crucial for maintaining continuity, especially with the same central cast, including Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who committed to the entire narrative at once.

Many of the first movie's sets were used again for the second movie. For example, the life-sized train to Emerald City served as Glinda's personal locomotive, while the Governor's Mansion in Munchkinland was built using parts from Madame Morrible's office and the Shiz University library.

The production was temporarily interrupted in July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but resumed in January 2024 and was concluded on January 22, 2025. Post-production for Wicked: For Good was paused in 2024 for director Jon M. Chu to complete the first film, ensuring a smooth transition of the story. Editing for the second part resumed in November 2024 after the release of the first film.

The film's title which was picked up from the musical's powerful penultimate song, was releaved on December 16, 2024. Director Jon M. Chu supported this choice over the working title, Wicked Part Two, though it was kept for certain international versions. Wicked: For Good is set to hit the theatres on November 21,2025.
