Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey's six-minute prologue, featuring a spectacular glimpse into the legend of the Trojan Horse, has been unveiled in select cinemas. This six-minute clip is currently playing ahead of IMAX 70mm screenings of Ryan Coogler's Sinners and Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another this weekend. The clip focuses on the legendary Trojan Horse, an event central to the surrounding mythology of Odysseus, although it is not a primary plot element in Homer’s The Odyssey.Nolan unleashes The Odyssey Trojan Horse prologue in exclusive IMAX 70mm screenings View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe Odyssey prologue starts by setting up the context for the legendary battle. Menelaus (played by Jon Bernthal) is speaking to a younger Telemachus (Tom Holland), asking if he’s ever heard the tale from someone who was actually there. The footage makes it clear that the brilliant strategy to finally end the long Trojan War was conceived by the main character, Odysseus (Matt Damon). His idea was for the Greeks to construct a massive, hollow wooden horse and conceal their elite soldiers within it. They hoped the Trojan defenders would mistakenly accept the horse as an offering and pull it inside their heavily fortified city walls. The clip then shows Odysseus, Menelaus, and many other Greek soldiers crammed together inside the dark horse. Outside, the Trojan people are shown celebrating loudly as they pull the huge structure across the beach and into their city.Inside the horse, the stress and danger remain very high. The Greek soldiers have to quickly dodge sharp swords that are randomly stabbed into the wooden sides by suspicious Trojan guards. They hold their breath and wait until the horse is finally secured inside Troy’s walls under the cover of night. The real attack begins when Odysseus and his men silently use ropes to drop to the ground. The Trojans are quickly alerted to the sudden attack, but the goal is for the soldiers to move fast to reach the main city gates and open them wide.Odysseus leads the charge, fending off guards in a brutal, quiet fight. When the gates finally swing open, the rest of the waiting Greek army, who were hidden outside, flood into the city. The Odyssey prologue action shows both Odysseus and Menelaus being triumphant in the battle that finally ends the war. Before the six minutes conclude, the audience gets a few rapid, exciting visuals that hint at the massive journey to come. These flashes include glimpses of armored men, a destroyed marble statue, and a monster. The Odyssey prologue makes it clear that while the Trojan Horse story is a crucial moment from Odysseus’s past, the main movie will focus on his decade-long, dangerous trip home after the war, facing gods and many mythical threats. With a major cast that also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron, Nolan’s The Odyssey is scheduled to hit the theatres on July 17, 2026.Stay tuned for more updates.
