The film will also feature Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, among others. The official trailer for Supergirl delivers a powerful introduction to Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, painting her as a jaded and "anti-hero" figure unlike the classic depiction.

It showcases her traumatic background as a survivor who witnessed the destruction of Krypton firsthand, which contrasts sharply with her cousin, Superman. Being in disbelief that her plant got destroyed so quickly, she says:

"Superman, he sees the good in everyone and I see the truth."

Given the trailer's visuals and dialogues, it proves that the narrative is not a simple hero story, but a darker quest for vengeance. With several actions scenes during the second half of the trailer, Kara is seen embarking on a journey with a young alien named Ruthye. For a split second, Jason Momoa also makes an appearance as Lobo in the final moments of the trailer.

The project for the Supergirl movie was officially greenlit in 2023 and began to proceed when the new heads of the DC Universe, James Gunn and Peter Safran, designated it as a foundational piece of their rebooted film slate.

The casting process led to the selection of Milly Alcock, celebrated for her work in the HBO fantasy series House of the Dragon, as the new Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Her casting was formally announced in late January 2024. The filming officially commenced on January 13, 2025.

The production was mainly held in the United Kingdom, utilizing the state-of-the-art Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden near London. Additional filming took place in and around London and in scenic locations across Scotland. The ensemble cast also features the Aquaman star Jason Momoa in a surprising role as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Eve Ridley as Kara's young traveling partner, Ruthye.
