Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein secured five major Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Director. Notably, Jacob Elordi, who played the creature in the gothic drama film, earned his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Male Actor.
Distributed by Netflix, Frankenstein debuted in a limited theatrical run on October 17, 2025, before launching globally on the streaming platform on November 7. Adapted from Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking 1818 novel, the film stars Oscar Isaac as the tormented scientist Victor Frankenstein, Elordi as the Creature, and features supporting performances from Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz.
5 Nominations for Frankenstein; Jacob Elordi earns his first Golden Globe nod

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has emerged as one of the most celebrated contenders of the season, scoring five major nominations at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Among the film’s standout achievements is Jacob Elordi’s first-ever Golden Globe nomination, recognizing his haunting performance as the Creature in the gothic sci-fi drama.
Far from a simple horror villain, Elordi’s portrayal captures the creature’s profound vulnerability and the animalistic rage that follows, born of the cruel rejection by his maker, Victor Frankenstein. His journey goes from an innocent being yearning for connection to an outcast seeking retribution.
This deeply humanized performance earned Elordi a nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture. Here is a list of the other awards earned by del Toro's gothic sci-fi film in the upcoming award ceremony:
- Best Motion Picture – Drama
- Guillermo del Toro for Best Director – Motion Picture
- Oscar Isaac for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
- Alexandre Desplat for Best Original Score
del Toro’s film follows scientist Victor Frankenstein, who, shaped by a harsh upbringing, creates a sentient Creature from old body parts. Horrified and instantly rejecting his work, Victor abandons the Creature, which mirrors the neglect he felt from his own father.
The film tells the story from both the perception of Victor's and the Creature's side, giving the Creature's pain and desire for acceptance equal weight. The Creature's violence is shown as a direct result of Victor's cruelty and emotional neglect, making the tragedy a cycle of inherited pain rather than just a warning about science gone wrong.
With five nominations, the film heads into the Globes as one of the year’s most celebrated films. The 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony is scheduled to air live on Sunday, January 11, 2026, beginning at 8:00 PM ET. It will be broadcast on CBS and available to stream on Paramount+, with the event returning to its traditional home at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
