The Smashing Machine star recently announced that production for the new movie has officially kicked off with the main cast reuniting for a table read. The Rock announced Jumanji 3 production in an Instagram post made on November 12, 2025, with a caption that reads:

"Officially kicking off production of JUMANJI, at our cast table read in Los Angeles - where we will film as well 👏🏾👏🏾 🥂. What a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure. Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film."

Jumanji 3 follows the massive success of the previous installment, Jumanji: The Next Level, which was released on December 13, 2019.

The Rock also paid tribute to Robin Williams (the lead actor in the original Jumanji film of 1995). He played Alan Parrish, a middle schooler in 1969 who is tragically trapped inside the magical board game, Jumanji, for 26 years. Williams died on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63. His cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation.

In the same Instagram post, Johnson shared a picture of the original dice worn by Williams in the 1995 film. The Moana star further captioned:

"✨ the significance of the 🎲 in the last picture, is a little Easter egg that my character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone wears on a necklace in our final film. It’s the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI and a way of paying homage, love and respect to the great Robin Williams ✨"

The Jumanji franchise was revived in 2017 with the release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This sequel modernized the concept by transforming the classic board game into a video game, which transported a group of teenagers into the bodies of various adult avatars.

The film, featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, alongside Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, became a massive commercial hit. Welcome to the Jungle grossed an impressive $962.5 million worldwide, becoming the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2017.

The follow-up, Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), continued this success, earning $801.7 million globally, establishing the modern Jumanji series as one of Hollywood's most lucrative adventure franchises. As of yet, there is no official synopsis or official title for the third addition in the film series.

While many of the details are still awaited, according to Johnson's Instagram post, Jumanji 3 will arrive sometime during Christmas next year, as the caption reads:

"CHRISTMAS 2026 🎄🎲"
