Disney is rolling out a unique promotional campaign for the highly anticipated blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday. Instead of a single, widely disseminated preview, the studio plans to debut four distinct trailers, each running for only one week, exclusively attached to James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash.The first trailer is dropping next Friday, December 19, when Avatar: Fire and Ash lands in theaters. The subsequent teasers will follow around Christmas, New Year’s, and the week after. Avengers: Doomsday is expected to explore a major, universe-altering event that will set the stage for its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.Robert Downey Jr., who played the fan favourite Avenger Iron Man in Marvel's Phase One to Three films, is returing in the Marvel saga, this time, in the villian role of Doctor Doom, who is pitted against the major alliance of the heroes including Anthony Mackie (Captain America/Sam Wilson), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova).The Fantastic Four team, led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, is also confirmed to make a major appearance. Furthermore, original X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Ian McKellen (Magneto) join the fray, making this a true merging of universes.The movie is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the team behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. Principal photography for the film commenced in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England and concluded in September 2025.In a major shift in visual quality, the production relied heavily on building large, real-life physical sets rather than mostly on blue or green screens.
