The film's plot centers on a radical new justice system where AI determines guilt, giving the accused just 90 minutes to prove their innocence before a severe penalty. In the latest trailer of Timur Bekmambetov's Mercy, Chris Pratt's Raven finds himself falsely accused of his wife’s murder and has to face the very system he once trusted: Mercy, an all-knowing AI judge named Judge Maddox.
The trailer is filled with glimpses of Raven's frantic fight against the clock. He is seen running through streets and dodging police as he tries to gather old-school, human evidence that the machine can’t see. Facing Judge Maddox, Raven's only chance is to somehow outsmart the perfect, emotionless logic of the AI, proving that human truth is more complicated than computer data.
Mercy brings together two major Hollywood stars, Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, in the high-stakes sci-fi battle. Pratt, who plays the detective accused of murder, is best known for his blockbuster roles that balance humor and action. His most notable parts include the lovable Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and the dinosaur expert Owen Grady in the Jurassic World films.
Rebecca Ferguson, who takes on the role of the AI Judge Maddox, has built her career on strong, resilient female characters in major franchises. Her key roles include the secret agent Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible films and the powerful Lady Jessica Atreides in the Dune films. She also received recognition for her lead role in the TV miniseries The White Queen.
While both actors are highly experienced in the action and sci-fi genres, the film Mercy marks their first major on-screen collaboration as co-leads. Scripted by by Marco van Belle, the movie's shooting began in Los Angeles in April 2024 and was wrapped up by the end of May 2024.
It is a major project for Amazon MGM Studios, which is handling the release. Long before the casting of Chris Pratt and the high-profile marketing stunts, the creative team at Amazon MGM Studios recognized the immense potential of the film. The strength of the story itself convinced the studio that the film needed a major theatrical release. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, stated:
“From the moment Chuck Roven brought us Mercy, and we read Marco van Belle’s script, we knew the film was meant for the big screen.”
Key producers include Charles Roven, known for Oppenheimer, along with Robert Amidon and the director himself. The film was originally set to be released in August 2025, but it was delayed by several months. It is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 23, 2026, for a full global theatrical run, including IMAX.
