According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who also go by Radio Silence, are set to direct the fourth instalment of the action franchise. Notably, the filmmaking team are best known for the 2019 fun horror movie, Ready or Not. They also reportedly revived the Scream franchise for Paramount in 2022 and 2023.

Sean Daniel will be taking the reins as the producer after working on the original movies with his late partner James Jacks. He will reportedly be joined by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein, who are frequent Radio Silence collaborators via their Project X Entertainment banner.

Directed and co-written by Stephen Sommers, the 1999 release The Mummy saw Fraser playing Rick O'Connell, a treasure hunter who travels to Egypt in the 1920s with Egyptologist Evelyn, played by Weisz. The movie reportedly grossed over $422.5 million.

While the actor returned for two sequels, 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Weisz only appeared in the former. The first film’s commercial success also gave birth to the Mummy franchise, which also featured a prequel, The Scorpion King, featuring Dwayne Johnson.

Meanwhile, it is also unclear which other stars could return for the next movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, one source has reportedly described the project as not a reboot, but rather a sequel. The upcoming project is said to disregard the events of the third movie, with David Coggeshall writing the screenplay.
