Ben Shelton's soccer star girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, is in the middle of a contract standoff with the Washington Spirit, and it won't be surprising if she decides to leave the National Women's Soccer League altogether.Rodman's deal with the Spirit ends after the 2025 season and the extension talks have also come to a standstill. The NWSL operates under a hard salary cap and the Spirit can only do so much in terms of giving up a better contract with European clubs lurking around. The USL Super League side DC Power has reportedly given her a better offer. With the possibility of Rodman leaving NWSL, league commissioner Jessica Berman is also trying to find a solution so that they can retain one of the best right wingers in the league.Of course, then there's her relationship with Shelton, which could play a big role on whether Rodman stays in the NWSL.Will relationship with Ben Shelton play in Trinity Rodman's potential decision to leave NWSL?Trinity Rodman is in a solid relationship with Shelton, which went public in March, after the American tennis pro uploaded a cozy elevator selfie with the soccer star. Rodman also didn't take long to confirm the relationship on social media and has been to several games of Shelton, including watching him at Wimbledon.Shelton's profession requires him to be on the tour for almost the entire year. Because of this, the couple gets to spend a lot less time with each other, something Rodman feels bad about.Recently, when Shelton was competing in China, Rodman shared that it "s-cks" that they couldn't talk because of the massive time difference."Where is Ben?" asked a fan, to which Rodman replied, "He's in China for a tournament. It sucks because it's a 12-hour difference and we barely talk."While preparing for the NWSL championship, Rodman shared how "nice" it was to have Shelton giving her company. She said that she feels "free" when Shelton is around and the conversations are far away from football and tennis."Ben's here, so I've been hanging out with him on my free time, which has been really nice," Rodman said on CBS Mornings. "I think for both of us, like, whenever we're together, we get to kind of not think about tennis and soccer, which I think people think we do a lot. But no, we try to use that time as just, like, relaxation and that's what we've been doing. And then, obviously, like, being able to hang out with your team off the field and being able to play, like, board games and all that has been super fun."Rodman also shared her happiness as Shelton finished the year at No. 6 and was preparing for the final tournament of the year, the ATP Finals in Turin. She dropped a note on Instagram, commenting about his hard work that helped him reach there before getting candid that she will finally be able to get a hold of him in the offseason."Last tournament of the season and it's the finals! You are one of a kind and you grow the sport every time you are yourseld out there. I love you❤️ One more push and then I get you all offseason! Hehe🤭" Trinity wrote. It almost feels like Rodman is missing out on spending quality time when she plays in the NWSL. A deal to Europe might help her in spending more time with Shelton, whose most tournaments are in that part of the world only. Moreover, it won't be the first time that a tennis star's girlfriend has prioritized spending time together over work. Fellow American pro Taylor Fritz's girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, left her corporate career behind to become a content creator and be with the top-10 ATP star on tour.Rodman can go in a similar direction if she feels that her profession is coming between her relationship with Shelton.
