Why Jannik Sinner won ATP Fan Favorite Award over Carlos Alcaraz: Key reasons and assumptions explored

Jannik Sinner edging out Carlos Alcaraz to win the ATP Fan Favorite Award sparked plenty of discussion, especially given the Spaniard's global popularity and on-court success. While the voting results surprised some, there are several possible reasons why Sinner may have come out on top.

One key factor could be the nature of the voting process itself. The Fan Favorite Award requires fans to register and actively vote on the ATP’s platform, which naturally favors a smaller but highly dedicated fanbase.

Sinner’s supporters are often seen as extremely loyal and organized, and that kind of commitment can be decisive in a vote that demands time and effort rather than casual clicks. A passionate core group can sometimes outweigh a larger but less mobilized audience.

Another possible reason lies in the World No. 2's massive popularity in China. He has built a strong following there through consistent performances, frequent appearances in Asian tournaments, and his calm, respectful public image.

Given China’s huge tennis audience, even a fraction of those fans voting could translate into a significant numerical advantage.

There is also speculation around national support. Italian fans are known for being deeply passionate and vocal about their athletes, often rallying strongly behind them in public votes. While Alcaraz is immensely popular in Spain, Italian tennis fans may have been more proactive in pushing Sinner during the voting window.

Ultimately, these remain assumptions. The result likely came down to fan engagement rather than on-court achievements alone. Notably, this is Sinner's third straight victory as the Fans’ Favourite singles player in the ATP Awards.

Sinner had a solid start to 2025 as he won the Australian Open by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final. However, in February, he was hit with a three-month doping ban.

Upon returning in May, he reached several finals and earned his maiden Wimbledon title. The 24-year-old finished the season with six titles and a 58-6 win-loss record.
