Former American tennis star Sam Querrey has criticised Carlos Alcaraz's appearance while receiving the "ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF" trophy. After winning against Lorenzo Mussetti in the ATP Finals' final group stage game, Carlos Alcaraz has ensured that he will end the year as World No. 1. The Spaniard accepted the trophy on Friday, 14 November afternoon at the Finals.

The ceremony took place in Turin, and the trophy was presented by ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi and PIF’s Head of Corporate Brand & Strategic Advisory, Mohamed Alsayyad. The Spaniard came wearing a navy blue suit over a white shirt. The look drew criticism from Querrey first, who also drew a comparison between Alcaraz and 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.

"Did you guys see Carlos? He got, like, the trophy yesterday on the court for winning, for making number one in the world," Querrey said on Nothing Major show. "Little ceremony. First time I've ever seen him not look super smooth. The suit that he was wearing was, like, meh.

"I'm just saying, like, the hair, anything he does with his hair, you're like, 'All right, Carlos, he's pulling it off.' It was, like, the first time it didn't look perfect."

Querrey talked about how Federer always appeared picture-perfect whenever he was honored with such trophies.

"We're so used to Roger looking, like, absolutely perfect every time he gets, like, an award," Querrey added. "Like it's… like just a perfect suit, button-up, tie, like Fed. I don't know. Maybe I'm just used to Fed, who would just, like, wear a tie."

Carlos Alcaraz wants to win two more titles before the 2025 season comes to an end

Carlos Alcaraz has won eight ATP titles with two Grand Slams this year. Both times, he defeated Italy's Jannik Sinner, first in the five-set epic at Roland Garros and then at the US Open in the four-set match.

However, he is not content. After advancing to the semifinals of the ATP Finals, where he'll face Canada's Felix-Auger Aliassime, Alcaraz revealed that he wants to win the tournament in Turin and also the Davis Cup Finals scheduled later this month.

"End the year with 10 titles with the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup," Alcaraz said.

It remains to be seen if Alcaraz can achieve both titles and end the year on a high.
