The top-ranked men's and women's tennis players, including Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek, sent a proposal to the organizers of all four major tournaments. They suggested a potential increase in the revenue-sharing percentage, player welfare, and more. Several meetings were held following this suggestion between the Slams and the players; however, the negotiations were later delayed during the summer and are yet to resume.

On November 8, Shelton sat for a pre-tournament press conference with Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. The players were asked about their thoughts on the ongoing dispute with the Slams, to which Shelton replied: (5:24 onwards)

"I think dispute is a strong word for sure. But for us, I know that as players, we see things that are important to us at times. And I know that as players, we're not greedy people. We're not looking ever for more than we feel we deserve or that we feel is fair. I think that also this group of players that we have right now is always going to speak up when they see things that are out of line or a little bit off from where they should be."

"For me, it hasn’t been all straightforward. It hasn’t been just winning all the time. There has been times where I’ve played really well, there’s been times where I haven’t played so well and had to get myself out of a slump. I think that’s just tennis. It’s a roller coaster. For me to be able to find my great tennis more consistently later in the year has always been a great thing for me."

In the opening match of the ATP World Tour Finals, Ben Shelton is scheduled to face Alexander Zverev on November 10 at the Inalpi Arena.
