A romantic love proposal in the stands stole the show at the Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz battle at the ATP Finals. Interestingly, another couple then became the talk of the town with their reaction, or lack of reaction rather, to the proposal.

Alcaraz took on Fritz in the second group stage clash in Turin, with both players having won their openers. While Alcaraz took down Alex de Minaur in his opener, Fritz made light work of Lorenzo Musetti in his first match on Monday.

The clash started off in heated fashion, with both players holding serve in tight games to take the set to a tiebreaker. Here, it was the American who prevailed, taking the first set 7-6(2) for a rather shocking lead.

Amidst all the tension, there was a moment of respite, as the cameras focussed on a fan's romantic proposal that drew a loud cheer from the crowd. As his partner said 'yes,' an old couple in seats behind them and their indifferent attitude to the moment caught the attention of the fans on social media.

After losing the opening set, Alcaraz bounced back in the second, taking it 7-5 to force a decider against the American No. 1. In the third set, the Spaniard was at his aggressive best, winning it 6-3 to go 2-0 in the group. A win in the next clash against Lorenzo Musetti will now be enough for Carlos Alcaraz to confirm the year-end World No. 1 spot over Jannik Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz: "This year, I had more time at home, which was great"

Carlos Alcaraz has not won the ATP Finals in his career before, falling in the group stage last year. This time, however, the Spaniard has fixed the tiredness that affected him in 2024, going for a new approach to the end of the season calendar and taking enough break to keep himself fresh.

"It's been a process. It was about to realize what I need, especially off the court, to stay motivated, to stay excited about the indoor swing. The year could be super long, a lot of matches, a lot of tournaments. So at the end of the year you might be tired mentally, physically," Alcaraz said in his press conference in Turin.

"So I think this year I had more time between tournaments. I had more time at home, which for me was great, to prepare myself physically, mentally to be fresh," he added.

Providing Alcaraz finishes No. 1 in his group, it is likely that he will face off against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, with Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime also in the running to qualify from their group with Jannik Sinner.
