Alexander Bublik once again showed his eccentric side during his third-round win over Taylor Fritz at the ongoing 2025 Paris Masters. During an exchange with his team after the conclusion of a game, the temperamental Kazakh questioned the instructions given to him, before going on to break his American opponent to love in the very next.

On Thursday, October 30, Bublik, the No. 13 seed in Paris, locked horns with the fourth-seeded Fritz. The first set was a tight affair, but the Kazakh ultimately won it 7-6(5). In the second though, Bublik dominated the American with his dazzling variety of on-court weapons.

During one of his service games in the second set, Alexander Bublik's team encouraged him to hit backhand winners against Taylor Fritz. However, the eight-time singles career singles titlist wasn't having any of it. Following a short break after the game's conclusion, the Kazakh told his team that if he consistently wins backhand winners, he's eventually going to be a Major winner, but he doesn't want to be one.

"If I hit every backhand winner I’m going to win a slam but I don’t want to win a slam, I want to have a retirement," Bublik said.

He then let his team know exactly what he felt about their instructions, telling them before preparing to return Fritz's serve:

"Guys f**k off"

In the aftermath of his victory against Taylor Fritz in the French capital, Alexander Bublik suggested that the American's assured spot at the year-end ATP Finals may have impacted his performance. Bublik himself has an outside chance of making it to the year-end event, but only as an alternate.

"We are in different positions now, he’s going to Turin, I’m still fighting maybe to be an alternate, so maybe the mindset changed a bit, I guess, I’m not saying 100%, but he was not as clutch as he usually is, so I had a bit of freedom, which he took from me in the past three meetings, when he actually killed me all the time," the Kazakh said.

The speedy Alex de Minaur awaits Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Paris Masters. De Minaur himself made short work of former Paris champion Karen Khachanov in the third round.
