Stefanos Tsitsipas' mother has revealed how her son struggled in the aftermath of his break-up with Paula Badosa. The two pros began dating in 2023, briefly parted ways in 2024, and got back together a few weeks later. They reportedly split up again in July 2025, though the official confirmation came months later.

Aside from turbulence in his personal life, Tsitsipas also had to deal with recurring injuries and a dip in form, making 2025 a year to forget. In an interview with Russian website SPORTS.RU, his mother, Julia, suggested that his break-up played a part in his on-court struggles.

"If we're talking about the last year, then, of course, it was his breakup with Paula Badosa. That wasn't easy. When I was a professional tennis player in my youth, I thought a man shouldn't react so emotionally. Not even emotionally, but mentally. For some reason, that's how I felt. But it turns out that men are perhaps even more sensitive in this matter," Tsitsipas' mother said.

Tsitsipas' mother felt that his relationship with Badosa was challenging right from the get-go, as they didn't get to stay together often, and both entered the relationship with their own injury issues, adding another layer of complication.

"It was certainly an interesting relationship. It wasn't some ordinary, dull, everyday relationship—because it was long-distance. And they both entered this relationship injured—and suffering from physical pain. When they started dating, Paula couldn't play at all because of a back injury. The relationship was difficult from the start," she continued.

Tsitsipas and Badosa both made early exits from Wimbledon, following which they unfollowed each other on Instagram. Tsitsipas eventually stated in an interview last month that he was single.

Stefanos Tsitsipas returned to the top 10 of the ATP rankings following his victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships. However, it all went downhill for him pretty fast after that. His stay in the top 10 lasted a few weeks, but his physical issues prevented him from building any momentum.

Tsitsipas ended his season after the Davis Cup qualifiers in September, though he returned for an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia. He wrapped up the season ranked No. 34, his worst year-end ranking since he finished his debut season ranked No. 91 in 2017.

Tsitsipas is 27, so he still has time on his side to reaffirm his status as a top player. He will begin the 2026 season at the United Cup, just as he has done for the past three years.
