Stefanos Tsitsipas’ attorney reveals shocking new details behind the €2,000 speeding penalty that cost the Greek his driving privileges

Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas' car reportedly oversped two months ago on September 24. The Greek star's Lotus car was moving at a speed of 210 km/hr on the Attiki Odos.

Concerning this, the tennis star was summoned and received a €2,000 fine, according to Tennisnews.gr. The publication contacted his attorney, Thanasis Papathanasiou, to learn more details about this case. Papathanasiou admitted to the incident but said the tennis player was not driving the car.

"Regarding the incident that was made public, the car was being driven by a third person. The issue of the fine and the surrender of the license have all been handled," the lawyer said.

Earlier, there were rumors that Tsitsipas was driving the car and that his license was suspended for one year.

This is one of the first tickets issued under Greece’s new digital traffic-fine system, where cameras detect speed, identify license plates, and automatically send fines.

Stefanos Tsitsipas won his first ATP title in almost a year when he won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in March. The ATP 500 event final saw Tsitsipas defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3.

“There’s nothing that I can say that ensured the win today, it was just pure fighting and trying my best to avoid that third final loss,” Tsitsipas said.

“It was nerve-wracking. I had a great opponent on the other side of the net, and I knew it was a difficult task, so I’m just proud of the way I handled the pressure and performed in those crucial moments.”

In the previous two editions of the tournament, Tsitsipas lost to Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the finals.

"It's a big relief that I'm able to hold that trophy after the third attempt," said Tsitsipas via ESPN. "It's something that I had in the back of my mind, and I'm happy to say I accomplished it."

The win also put an end to the Greek tennis star's 11-game losing streak in the finals of the ATP 500 tournaments. Moreover, after this win, he reentered the top-10 rankings.
