Holger Rune's intense training regimen following his horrific injury sparked a concern among a section of fans, while others thought he was on the right track. He injured his Achilles while competing at the Stockholm Open 2025 in October. He retired from his match, and soon underwent a surgery.

The surgery was a success, and he has been posting videos of his rehab and training since then. He recently shared a video of pushing himself at the gym on Instagram, which was later posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The clip set off alarm bells in some, who wondered if he ought to take it a little easy after suffering such a massive injury. Fans voiced their concerns on X, who were worried about the long-term effects of such heavy training after an injury.

"Bro, I've never been scared for a player man....his rehab clips are literally dangerous. Someone lock him up for his own good....don't even know if it's ok to be doing these.. Rest up well man, no need to rush it," wrote one fan.

"Just one slip up and his career is gone forever. Dangerous +++", chimed in another fan.

However, other fans opined that this is exactly what Rune needs. He wouldn't do this without the clearance of his medical team. As a top player, he has access to the best healthcare, and they know a lot more about the human body than the armchair activists on X.

"Calm down sally, he is fine and his pt is typical for most athletes w similar injuries," said a fan.

"This is good for him actually," wrote another fan.
"That’s why you’re not a physio. I’m sure his doctors are well aware of any dangers and making sure he’s ok. He’s not using his Achilles at all there," expressed a fan.
"Best wishes, Holger. Get inspired by Tomas Muster who came back from a much worse accident. Hope this very bad luck make you more resilient and determined," wrote a fan.

Despite his best efforts to recover, Rune won't be back in action any time soon. Given the extent of his injury, one can expect him to see him competing professionally in the second half of 2026.

Holger Rune's Achilles injury and subsequent surgery took place in October 2025. The general timeline of recovery in such a case is at least 6-8 months, even with the best treatment and medical care. As such, there's no way the young Dane will make a trip Down Under for the Australian Open 2026.

Fourth-round appearances in 2023 and 2025 stand out as Rune's best results at the season's first Major. He could potentially return for the French Open, provided there aren't any setbacks during his recovery. However, grinding it out on clay after such a major injury may not be in his best interests.

Thus, Rune can be expected to return to the tour during the grass season, or directly at the start of the North American hardcourt swing. His ranking is going to take a big hit because of his lengthy absence, which would lead to earlier than expected encounters with top players.
