Roger Federer has ruled out taking up a coaching role after retiring from tennis in 2022. He wished to spend more time with his family, instead of travelling full-time on the ATP Tour.

Federer ended his remarkable career at the 2022 Laver Cup. He won 20 Grand Slam titles, 28 ATP Masters, and six ATP Finals trophies during his time on tour.

The Swiss maestro revealed that he has been focusing on his four children over the past few months. He said he does not have enough time to commit to coaching on the professional tour.

"Not at the moment. I'm concentrating on our children. It's an interesting, important time now before everyone leaves home. We like being together as a family, and there's so much to do. Juggling everything with four children is demanding. No matter who asked now, I'd decline. I don't have time. I think everyone knows that," Roger Federer said via Tages-Anzeiger

Federer was spotted at the Laver Cup and the Shanghai Masters this year. He has yet to feature in a proper exhibition match since his retirement in 2022. The 44-year-old said he was open to mentoring a player and didn't completely rule out a coaching gig in the future.

"But never say never. Stefan Edberg hadn't thought he'd spend two years on tour with me either. But I'm open to mentoring. If someone has a question, I'm happy to give advice. Or if I'm in Dubai at the end of the year, a player is welcome to drop by. I'm open, but I can't be everywhere," Roger Federer added

Federer reached three Grand Slam finals under Stefan Edberg’s guidance in 2014 and 2015. He lost all three to Novak Djokovic, at Wimbledon in 2015 and at the US Open in 2014 and 2015.

"I'm now trying to build a framework around tennis for my son Leo" - Roger Federer

Roger Federer married Mirka Vavrinec in 2009. They have four children: two sons, Leo and Lenny, and two daughters, Charlene and Myla.

The former World No. 1 praised his parents’ approach to his aspiring tennis career as a teenager. He said he is now trying to create a similar solid structure for his son Leo.

"I can learn so much from my parents. They didn't interfere when it wasn't necessary. They would call me, my coach at Swiss Tennis, and Pierre and ask: “How’s it going?” And when everyone said it was okay, they stayed out of it," Roger Federer said

"I can't remember them ever visiting me in Ecublens (where he trained with Swiss Tennis from 14 to 16). I asked them recently: «Did you actually ever come to Ecublens?» They said: «Two or three times.» And that was in two years. Pretty incredible. I'm now trying to build a framework around tennis for my son Leo. He's eleven now," he added

Federer again dismissed the idea of taking on a coaching role for Leo. He was more keen on supporting him and managing his early tennis career.

"No. If I'm needed, I'm there. I'm happy to help, with other kids too. I make sure Leo has good coaches and training partners. Organizing all of that is quite a bit of work. You can't just send him somewhere and then see what happens. I think Leo's doing great. He now also plays the occasional tournament. For me, it's exciting to support him. I'm less concerned with results than with him having fun and making progress," Federer concluded

Federer enjoyed some of the most successful moments of his career under coach Tony Roche. Together, they won six Grand Slam titles between 2005 and 2007 on the ATP Tour.
