Aryna Sabalenka has been on the receiving end of criticism for her comments on trans athletes during her recent appearance on Piers Morgan's show. The talk show host himself has now rushed to her defense in the wake of mounting condemnation.

The participation of trans athletes in women's sports has been a hot-button issue in today's times. Sabalenka was asked about the same by Morgan when she appeared on his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored. The World No. 1 stated trans athletes would have an undue advantage over biological women, and it wouldn't be fair to include them in women's sports.

"Well that's a tricky question. I have nothing to do against them but I feel like they still got huge advantage over the woman and I think it's just not fair to a woman to basically face like the biological man. And then it's, you know, it's not fair like the woman has been working the whole life to reach her limit and then she has to face like a man (who is) biologically much stronger. So for me, I don't agree with this kind of stuff in sports," Sabalenka said.

Sabalenka's comments stirred the pot, and she was accused of being transphobic. Morgan took to X (formerly Twitter), to shield the four-time Major champion amidst constant criticism. He felt her opinion was perfectly sound, and it was unfair to hound her for the same.

"She is right in what she told me… but is already being attacked by the LGBTQ+ (etc) lobby for being ‘transphobic.’ It’s not transphobic to want to protect women’s rights @SabalenkaA" Morgan said.

Sabalenka isn't the only noted tennis player being against the inclusion of trans athletes in women's sports. Another legend of the sport, Martina Navratilova, has been vehemently against the same for years now.

Aryna Sabalenka has joined Martina Navratilova by expressing her concern against the participation of trans athletes in women's sports. The 18-time Major champion has been talking about the same for years now.

Navratilova's stance on the matter can be traced back to 2019. Her opposition against trans athletes has only intensified over the years. She even labeled them as "failed male athletes".

Boxer Imane Khelif, who won the gold medal in the welterweight category at the Paris Olympics 2024, was in the center of a controversy surrounding her gender following her victory. Navratilova was one of the fiercest critics of Khelif, strongly voicing her opinion on the matter during the whole episode and long after that as well.
