Osaka has had a propitious season this year. Apart from a title-winning run in Saint-Malo, she also secured runner-up finishes in Auckland and Montreal.

The 28-year-old defeated Wakana Sonobe and Suzan Lamens in the Japan Women's Open before withdrawing against Jaqueline Cristian. She announced her intentions for next year and looked forward to making her mark at the 2026 Australian Open.

"And that's a wrap on my year. Great year, everybody. Let's do it again next year. Maybe a little differently. But yeah, it was fun," Osaka said with a laugh. She concluded, "See you in Australia."

Team Japan has been placed in Group E with Great Britain and Greece. Osaka will most likely face Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakkari in the singles rounds.

Her commitment to the global team event means she will skip the ASB Classic next year. The tournament director in Auckland welcomed Emma Navarro and Elina Svitolina, but was disappointed that Osaka wasn't in the entry list next year.

"We are absolutely thrilled that both Elina and Emma indicated that they want to compete in Auckland. I was pleasantly surprised when both spoke to me about playing, and their appearance will greatly strengthen the top of the order."

"At the same time, we are disappointed with Naomi Osaka’s decision but hope to welcome her back in the near future," tournament director Nicolas Lamperin said.

Osaka was ranked outside the top 55 in 2024. She is currently among the top 20 players in the world.
