After a strong start to the season, Jelena Ostapenko couldn't maintain consistency on the singles tour. She also registered early exits at all four Majors. The Latvian's only clinical run came at the Stuttgart Open in Germany. She defeated Emma Navarro and Iga Swiatek in the initial few rounds and then overpowered Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Ostapenko defeated the Belarusian in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Here's what she said after winning the title in Stuttgart:

"Honestly, I didn't tell to anyone, I was keeping it to myself, but I felt very confident since the first day. I had, like a strange -- not strange but in a good way, strange feeling," said Jelena Ostapenko via WTA Tennis.

"When I came here, I felt like something is going to happen this week. I pretty much felt that I can win this tournament. Because I think I'm improving day by day and I'm playing better and better. Yeah, I think I deserve it," she added

Despite her performances, Ostapenko has dropped out of the WTA top 20 this year. She is currently the 23rd-ranked player on tour.
