Carlos Alcaraz is enjoying time in the Maldives, which has turned out to be a major vacation hotspot among tennis circles. The Spaniard is coming off a great 2025 season and finished the year as World No. 1 over Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz recently met with Juan Martin del Potro in the Maldives. The former Argentine tennis player shared the photo on X, as the two posed alongside. Alcaraz was shirtless, wearing green shorts, while Martin del Potro wore a white shirt on top of blue shorts with black sunglasses and a luxurious watch.

"Siempre es lindo volver a verte amigo! 😊" Martin del Petro wrote on X. English translation: "It's always great to see you again, my friend!"

Juan Martin del Potro is a former World No. 3 ATP player and 2009 US Open champion. Recognized as one of tennis' most powerful hitters, the Argentine player suffered several injuries in his career. He retired in 2022 after playing the exhibition game against Novak Djokovic in Buenos Aires.

Juan Martin del Potro lavishes praise on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's modern rivalry

Tennis has entered a new era with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner taking the legacy forward left by stalwarts of the game and part of the Big Three, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Sinner and Alcaraz have shared every Grand Slam over the last two years as they sit miles ahead of rest of the field.

Even Juan Martin del Potro acknowledged this rivalry, and he sees Alcaraz being the perfect man to take men’s tennis forward after the era dominated by the "Big Three." During the presentation of the Roland Garros Junior Series in March 2023, Martin del Potro said:

"One day the Big Three will not be there and it will be the turn of Alcaraz, Sinner or Holger Rune. Other youngsters will mark an era in tennis, but we have all learned so much from Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. For many years, in my opinion, we will see something like this again. I'm very proud of my career, but I've never made it to the top because of the Big 3. Still, it's nice to think that it was the three of them who denied me that dream."

The Big Three was one of the reasons why Juan Martin del Potro could only win one Grand Slam. However, he takes pride while saying that he lost to players who deserved it.
