Novak Djokovic is currently competing at the Hellenic Championship 2025 in Athens. He's through to the semifinals without losing a set, though aside from his scintillating form, he's also drawing attention for another reason this season. The Serb has been assigned additional security to avoid another dangerous incident akin to the one he experienced at the Italian Open earlier last year.

Djokovic was engaging with fans and signing autographs for them following his second-round win over Corentin Moutet in Rome. Out of the blue, he got struck by a water bottle on his head, and immediately fell to the ground while clutching his head in agony.

The Serb was fortunate to avoid a serious injury on that occasion. However, in order to avoid a repeat of that mishap, a protective detail has been assigned to Djokovic this week in Athens. A security personnel was right next to him protectively holding his hand over the player's head while the latter interacted with fans following his quarterfinal win over Nuno Borges at the Hellenic Championship.

While Djokovic is exercising caution off the court, he is playing some fearless tennis on the court. He has his sights set on title No. 101 this week, and next up for him is qualifiier Yannick Hanfmann.

Novak Djokovic is a couple of wins away from claiming his 101st career title. He will take on Yannick Hanfmann in the semifinals of the Hellenic Championship 2025 on Friday, November 7. Either second seed Lorenzo Musetti or Sebastian Korda could await him in the final.

Djokovic won his only title of the season at the Geneva Open in May, and finished as the runner-up to Jakub Mensik at the Miami Open a couple of months prior to that. He is gunning to capture his first title on hardcourts since winning the ATP Finals 2023.

While we're on the subject of the ATP Finals, Djokovic has qualified for this year's edition of the year-end championships. However, he will decide on his participation after he's done with his campaign at the Hellenic Championship.

The draw for the ATP Finals 2025 was revealed on Thursday, November 6. Djokovic has been placed in Group Jimmy Connors alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur. The Serb skipped last year's edition despite qualifying for it. Fans are now eagerly awaiting his decision regarding his appearance this time.
